About

For those of you who don’t know, Actuaries are people who “make financial sense of the future”. More accurately we are the guys (and girls) in insurance and pensions who literally do the maths.

In order to prove just that we have to do a whole bunch of exams (about 15 depending on how you count them).

This means that, even though our generous employers do give us time off for study, we have to do a lot in our own time. Then there’s all the rest of life: bills to pay, lawns to mow, wives to occasionally say hello to. It’s easy to get swamped in a sea of “stuff”.

That’s why I need to start Getting Things Done. David Allen’s system makes a lot of sense to me. And the idea of having a mind like water appeals – right now I have mind like a whirlpool. So does never that dreadful heavy feeling in the base of your stomach when you realise you have let another commitment slip.

So this blog is about me trying desperately to crawl up on to the GTD wagon. And if you’re the kind of person that likes watching a spider try and climb out of the bath feel free to stick around and see what happens.
